We are so grateful to all of our seniors for the work and dedication they have put into The Spectator throughout their years at LFA. As a way to honor our seniors, we interviewed each one of them, asking them fun questions about their time in journalism and what they are excited about for next year. Here’s a look at what they each answered…

Tanya Ganesh (Sports Director) — Attending Northwestern University:

If someone were to write about you, what would you want them to write?

  • “Probably where I come from, my cultural background, and my family.”

Dream person to interview for an article, dead or alive?

  • “Drake and Kendrick Lamar in the same room.”

Favorite moment with Mrs. Krause?

  • “Watching all of the Frozen movies in her English 9 class.”

If you re-incarnated, what would you come back as?

  • “I would be a dog so I could be friends with my dog. Or, a koala because they just sleep and eat and be in the trees.”

Esti Rosenblatt (Managing Editor of Production) — Attending Washington University in St. Louis:

Explain your ideal day at LFA?

  • “Start with math class in the morning because it wakes me up. Then, a couple of free periods so that I can walk around outside — hopefully it’s nice outside and sit outside. Next, a Journalism double to take a trip to Starbucks, come back to school, and go to Art History with Mrs. Poska. After that, I would have another free. When school ends, I go to sunset to get some snacks. Then, I have soccer practice. And finally, I would go home and have no homework.”

What are you most excited for in college?

  • I’m studying art, and I’m excited to get an arts education because although I like art I’ve never really experienced it in an educational form because I don’t take art classes. I’m also excited to live by myself.”

If someone were to write about you, what would you want them to write?

  • “I would want someone to write something from my perspective without having anything but basic knowledge about me.”

What’s your journalism pet peeve if you have one (InDesign, writing articles, etc.)?

  • “When people make pages on InDesign and the lines of the words between columns don’t align.”

Quinn Knight (Managing Editor of Sports) — Attending Villanova University:

If someone were to write about you, what would you want them to write?

  •  “Athletic achievements seen as country club sports.”

If you could be any celebrity, who would you be?

  • “First thing that came to my mind: Adam Schefter.”

What’s your favorite journalism memory?

  • “Interviews with good interviewees.”

If you re-incarnated, what would you come back as?

  • “A sloth because they hang in trees, don’t do anything, and sleep all day.”

Harry Luo (Managing Editor of Production) — Attending University of Southern California:

Explain your ideal day at LFA?

  • “Any day that has a lunch”

If you were to be a journalist, what would be the first article you write?

  • “I would probably write about basketball games in the NBA, specifically James Harden. It would be more like an Op-Ed.”

Where are you going to college? What are you most excited for?

  • “I’m excited about living in residential colleges and having a new community to get used to. And also being able to get engaged in the art scene a little bit more and watching productions and shows.”

If someone were to write about you, what would you want them to write?

  • “My family and our family’s history because I don’t know too much about it and it would be interesting to learn.”

Jason Xu (Editor-in-Chief) — Attending Northwestern University:

Explain your ideal day at LFA?

  • “Taking two AP exams where I have to write 6 full essays, and also end up killing my senior assassin target.”

What’s your favorite journalism memory?

  • “When I was a junior, our journalism class with the seniors was planning the September issue, and all the seniors were yelling at each other. It was an entire zoo, and me — being a little junior at the time — was trying to make sense of what was happening. People were online shopping, playing Flappy Bird, and yelling at each other for story ideas. All the juniors were just there trying to make sense of all of it.”

Where are you going to college? What are you most excited for?

  • “Northwestern. I’m excited for their work study program where you could work in the New York Magazine or Chicago Tribune for a quarter or two and actually earn credit. So you get a college experience and an intern experience which you don’t have to pay extra for.

Favorite moment with Mrs. Krause?

  • “When she was teaching us remotely in 9th grade we would spend an entire period analyzing Disney film and songs and sing them out loud passionately and we would sit there with earphones in and some people didn’t have earphones in too. It was the Lion King, Tangled, and Frozen 2.”

Cynthia Li (Managing Editor of Global) — Attending University of California, Santa Barbara:

Where are you going to college? What are you most excited for?

  • “I’m going to the University of California, Santa Barbara, and I’m looking forward to the beach in Santa Barbara.”

Ela Jain (Managing Editor of Podcasts & Managing Editor of A&E) — undecided:

Explain your ideal day at LFA?

If you could be a journalist, what would be the first article you would write?

  • “Mine would be about movies. I would love to do a feature piece like they do on Rolling Stone, where they do these stupid, little intros.”

Dream person to interview for an article, dead or alive?

  •  “I would interview John Lennon about what was going on with him.”

Where are you going to college? What are you most excited for?

  • “I don’t know where I’m going, so it’s a really fun development in my life. I’m excited to live in a new city, meet new people, and see new things.”

Claire Ireland (Managing Editor of News) — Attending Davidson College:
