2024 Spring Break Trip: Global Class takes on Costa Rica

At 1 AM on March 15th, all of the students a part of LFA’s Global Concentration and Cohort program embarked on their remarkable journey to Costa Rica to learn about the sustainable agriculture that takes place there. Initially, we were all a bit skeptical of how we would get along as a class, but little did we know, we would all be best friends by the end of the trip. Ms. Kruger and Mrs. Tanwar led the way while we toured the city of San Jose, stayed with our homestay families, hiked through the jungle and visited waterfalls, as well as learning how to make real, delicious chocolate! A usual day in our lives there consisted of us waking up early, eating a breakfast of beans, rice, plantains, and fresh juice. Then we would visit one of the sustainable farms and have fun activities like swimming in rivers, playing soccer, and getting to know the Costa Rican culture.

Claire Costello ‘25 wrote her favorite memory from the trip being, “that one night at the homestay where we went on a walk with Emmanuel, Kiara, and Jose [our homestay families grandkids aging 3, 11, and 9] and seeing fireflies and biking!”

Barrett Raines ‘25 said that he loved, “getting to swim in the big waterfall and being able to go behind it in that little cave area.”

Aside from just the activities, Andrew Wong ‘24 emphasized, “enjoying the Costa Rican food, especially the chifrijo [traditional Costa Rican dish we tried]with its amazing flavors.”

The co-curricular Global trip was truly a blast, being the perfect mix of fun and educational all at the same time. We all walked away with so many amazing memories and have even begun trying to arrange a Costa Rica reunion trip sometime in the future!
