The holiday season typically caps off the cinematic year with some of the most highly-anticipated blockbusters. From period dramas to science fiction sagas, there’s something for everyone this upcoming holiday season. If you’re looking for a guide to navigate Hollywood’s newest flicks, then look no further.

Bombshell
December 20
Bombshell is an upcoming drama film based on the true story of the women of Fox News who exposed the CEO of the company, Roger Ailes, for his history of sexual harassment. The movie stars Hollywood bombshells Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, and Kate McKinnon. The film has been highly anticipated since production was announced in 2017. This female-driven film will empower and excite audiences.

Cats
December 20
Based off of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit stage musical of the same name, Cats is a musical fantasy film about a clan of cats, known as the Jellicle Tribe, who gather for their yearly celebration of allowing one cat to ascend to heaven. The film focuses on several cats’ appeals to be the one chosen for rebirth in the afterlife. When the trailer for the film first dropped, it generated a lot of internet buzz for its oddly realistic use of CGI fur and animals. Despite its early criticisms, the musical film features powerhouse vocalists such as Jennifer Hudson, recognizable contemporary music figures such as Taylor Swift, and revered performers such as Dame Judi Dench. No matter how bizarre it may seem, Cats will be an interesting watch, to say the least.

\Star Wars: Episode IX—The Rise of Skywalker
December 20
The ninth and final installment in the Star Wars saga promises to be a spectacular finale to the series after months of anticipation. The two hour and thirty-five minute-long film (the longest Star Wars film to date) will showcase state-of-the-art special effects while concluding the story of beloved characters such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. The movie will pick up several years after the events of The Last Jedi, with the Resistance rebelling against the First Order one last time. At the same time, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and Sith, good and evil, will draw to a close. This exciting conclusion, sure to be filled with plenty of nostalgia, will intrigue Star Wars fans young and old alike.

Little Women
December 25
Louisa May Alcott’s cherished classic novel has been adapted to the silver screen once again. The story follows the lives of the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, throughout the triumphs and challenges of youth in the late 1800s. The movie will undoubtedly tug at heartstrings through emotional and powerful performances from the highly lauded cast. The star-studded cast features critically acclaimed actors and actresses Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep. Little Women promises to be one of the most emotional and heartwarming films of the year and that will attract cross-generational attention.
